Every year, people affected by domestic abuse seek help from clergy more than any other helping profession.
A woman walks into your church, requesting a meeting with the pastor. As you sit down together and make small talk, you can tell she is feeling anxious. After a few sips of warm coffee, she musters up the courage to begin sharing her story. She is a Grand Rapids mother of three children who has experienced domestic abuse for the past ten years. You are the very first person she has told. What do you do?
