POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Safe Haven Ministries seeks a strategic and creative Communications and Events Manager who
has a strong connection to our mission and a passion to support survivors and prevent violence.
The Communication and Events Manager is responsible for successful planning and execution of
communication projects related to branding, digital marketing, communication, development and
events. The Communication and Events Manager will be responsible for expanding the
community’s awareness of Safe Haven Ministries. As a member of the Development Team, this
staff member will work closely with the Sr. Director of Development, members of the
Development Team, leadership, staff members and community partners to help grow public
awareness, diversify revenue sources, and increase community engagement.


ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW:
Safe Haven Ministries – a nonprofit organization located in Grand Rapids, Michigan – believes in a
multi-faceted approach to serving victims/survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking
and preventing domestic violence and exploitation in our community. Safe Haven offers
comprehensive residential and non-residential services; confidential emergency shelter for
individuals and families fleeing domestic violence; psycho-educational support groups; individual
case management and advocacy; and primary prevention training and outreach for the entire
community.


SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Communications
● Under the guidance of the Sr. Director of Development, implement marketing strategies to
build awareness, increase visibility, and support fundraising goals.
● Responsible for the annual communication plan
● Responsible for managing all Safe Haven Ministries digital communication tools including:
online marketing, social media channels, e-newsletters, web site, etc.
● Under the guidance of the Sr. Director of Development write promotional materials, website
content social media posts and other materials as needed
● Measure, track and optimize the effectiveness of communications and marketing tools
● Keep up to date on emerging trends in communication technologies that could help Safe
Haven Ministries promote its mission and awareness
● Ensure that Safe Haven Ministries identity is consistent across all mediums through effective
messaging, knowledge, sharing, learning and branding standards
● Manage effective distribution of marketing materials and maintain digital archives of
marketing assets
● Build and maintain relationships with relevant press and media

Events:
● In collaboration with the Sr. Director of Development develop and implement an annual
framework of events with detailed project times, roles and responsibilities, logistics, program
structure, and marketing guidelines – this will include two major events per year
● Under the guidance of the Sr. Director of Development support the execution of events from
concept to execution – including lead planning, materials, event coordination, volunteer
recruitment and management, serve as a liaison to the venue and to all partners involved and
schedule and hold debrief meetings
● Work closely with the development team and other teams across the organization when
necessary
● When applicable, coordinate with additional contracted parties to ensure that the event runs
seamlessly and that they, too, are supported effectively
Administrative Duties:
● Serve as the liaison for all of Safe Haven Ministries’ communications and events
● Provide monthly communication and events report to the Sr. Director of Development and the
the Leadership Team
● Provide support to Sr. Director of Development as needed and other duties as assigned
● Provide the Development team and other teams across the organization with updates and
reports as needed


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED or PREFERRED:
● Bachelor’s Degree
● 3-6 years’ experience managing and executing across multi-channel
communication strategies
● Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines
● Experience planning and implementing events and working with venues, volunteers, community members and diverse teams
● Demonstrated ability to set goals strategically and oversee execution
● Creative and proactive problem solver
● Strong verbal and written communication skills
● Ability to work independently & be flexible on the job
● Ability to work cross-functionally with various internal and external constituents
● Ability to successfully utilize donor management software (Raiser’s Edge NXT or similar) and Canva Pro for design and implementation of marketing materials
● Sensitivity to confidentiality required
● Have a strong interest in the mission
