Curriculum
Safe Haven’s My Voice Matters (MVM) Youth Violence Prevention (YVP) curriculum incorporates skills-based, age-appropriate, and evidence-based practices that cover the following topic areas of violence prevention and human trafficking prevention: Social Norms, Healthy Relationships, Red Flags and Risk Factors, Bystander Intervention, and Getting Help. Each topic is delivered during a 45- to 75-minute session. This curriculum is delivered in secondary (8th-10th grade) health education or similar classes.
THE PROCESS | WHAT TO EXPECT
The Process (For Administrators)
Partnership Agreement: School administrators and Safe Haven discuss and agree upon partnership terms.
Facilitator Training: School staff completes curriculum facilitator training. Safe Haven provides classroom curriculum demonstrations.
Student and Staff Feedback: Curriculum and facilitation feedback is gathered through student and staff surveys.
School Staff Facilitation: trained school staff facilitates classroom curriculum independently.
Support and Assistance: Safe Haven provides ongoing support and additional training as needed.

Training Plan: School staff works with Safe Haven to create a training schedule.
Facilitator Training: School staff completes curriculum facilitator training.

Training Information
Self-Paced Online Training
and Coaching
The My Voice Matters Online Facilitator Training equips its participants to teach Safe Haven’s youth violence prevention curriculum to youth 12 to 16 years old (typically in grades 8 and 10). In addition to the training topics listed below, participants will learn about and discuss the public health approach to violence prevention, trauma-informed environments, and best practices for curriculum delivery.
- a general overview of domestic violence, relationship abuse, and human trafficking
- a review of risk and protective factors, and their impact on young people access to
- instructions regarding use of the My Voice Matters Curriculum Facilitation “Toolkit”
