Curriculum

Safe Haven’s My Voice Matters (MVM) Youth Violence Prevention (YVP) curriculum incorporates skills-based, age-appropriate, and evidence-based practices that cover the following topic areas of violence prevention and human trafficking prevention: Social Norms, Healthy Relationships, Red Flags and Risk Factors, Bystander Intervention, and Getting Help. Each topic is delivered during a 45- to 75-minute session. This curriculum is delivered in secondary (8th-10th grade) health education or similar classes.

The Process/What to Expect

The Process (For Administrators)

  1. Partnership Agreement: School administrators and Safe Haven discuss and agree upon partnership terms.

  2. Facilitator Training: School staff completes curriculum facilitator training. Safe Haven provides classroom curriculum demonstrations.

  3. Student and Staff Feedback: Curriculum and facilitation feedback is gathered through student and staff surveys.

  4. School Staff Facilitation: trained school staff facilitates classroom curriculum independently.

  5. Support and Assistance: Safe Haven provides ongoing support and additional training as needed.

“What to Expect” (For Educators and Support Staff)

  1. Training Plan: School staff works with Safe Haven to create a training schedule.

  2. Facilitator Training: School staff completes curriculum facilitator training.

  3. Classroom Demonstration: Safe Haven provides classroom curriculum demonstrations.

  4. Student and Staff Feedback: Curriculum and facilitation feedback is gathered through student and staff surveys.

  5. School Staff Facilitation: trained school staff facilitates classroom curriculum independently.

  6. Support and Assistance: Safe Haven provides ongoing support and additional training as needed.
